ABOUT INS

INS is a registered Charity and is governed by 8 Trustees which include service users. It was formed in late 2007 in response to the identified need that the level of support required by an ageing Irish population was increasing.
It soon became apparent that the needs of the elder Irish were the same as older people throughout Stevenage and our Constitution reflects our aims which are focused on enabling all older people to live independently in their own homes and to combat social isolation amongst older people.

INS is open to all and we are delighted that the services we have been providing have encouraged older people to approach us and ask for our help. It has become apparent that our friendly and non-intrusive approach to our beneficiaries is welcome and our membership has grown, approximately 75% of our members are non-Irish.

We provide social events each week including a selection of exercise activities, bingo, line dancing (different levels), social afternoons with music and dancing and much more! All these activities are designed to cater to older people including carers, housebound members and vulnerable elders. These activities make a positive impact on their lives by enabling them to interact on different levels at different activities. The events are open to everyone and we have seen a steady increase in attendance since their inception.

We also provide a ‘Care in the Community’ outreach programme for the elderly and housebound members of the community.  In addition to providing a befriending service we also assist them in completing official forms to obtain the support they need, specifically financial assistance, carers allowance, pensions, passport forms and blue badge forms and signpost where appropriate.
